Downtown Kingston is Lit

I don’t even know if the term “lit” is popular anymore but I am going to roll with it for the purpose of this post which is to tell you about Kingston’s beautiful light installation downtown. The bright, twinkling, (they literally twinkle), lights are certainly needed at the end of this dreadful year. No, they will not act as the light at the end of this pandemic tunnel, however, with Christmas around the corner it’s important to find the silver-linings available to us and hold on tight to them! We can’t control  the current state of the world but we can control how we react to the madness!

The light installation downtown is truly magical and a perfect way to get into the holiday spirit. From the big, bright tree, to all of the lit up posts, it looks like the scene of a Christmas Hallmark movie. At the centre of it all, masked skaters glide along the ice enjoying one of Canada’s most famous pastimes.

For people-watchers, there are plenty of Adirondack chairs and benches set up to take in the cheerful vibes! I can’t imagine how anyone could walk through this display and not have their heart grow three times larger. With the countdown to Christmas and very little to do, hello orange zone, I suggest bundling up, grabbing a thermos of hot chocolate,  and going for a nighttime walk to take in the sparkling sights. The lights aren’t reserved for market square, you can also walk up or down Princess and see the trees wrapped with lights as well as plenty of pretty storefronts featuring neon hearts.

I’ve seen first-hand how enthusiastic our community is about supporting local businesses and these lights are a great reflection of that community spirit. Happy Holidays, YGK!
