It’s been just over a year since I moved back to my hometown and about a year since I started Keep up with Kingston.
Each day I am reminded of why I chose Kingston. I’ve had so many conversations with fellow Kingstonians who have just recently swapped the big city life for the slow pace of this beautiful community.
I don’t know how I didn’t see it before but the more I get involved with our community the more I find a common thread of kindness, hospitality and enthusiasm for this waterfront gem.
Everyone who lives here chooses to live here because they love it. They’ve either moved back or never left.
Living in Toronto for so many years, I never met so many people who were absolutely in love with their city as much as I have here in Kingston. Sure, everyone loves Toronto for the obvious reasons but there is always something to complain about; traffic, housing costs, TTC, overpopulation.
I’ve noticed that Kingstonians don’t really complain about day-to-day obstacles. Many have settled here to escape from that list of complaints above and are just grateful. Grateful for a city that offers affordable housing, grateful for a place that allows for a 20 minute commute from one end to the other, grateful for all of the incredible local restaurants and businesses and of course, grateful for the stunning waterfront.
Kingston is such an easy place to call home. It seems the people who live here are either moving back or they spent a short time here years ago and are finding their way back home.
As we get older something shifts and many of us who grew up here are able to open our eyes and see what an amazing community it is filled with encouraging people who offer their support to any of our wildest dreams.
I started this blog about a year ago this week and I couldn’t be more appreciative of the doors it has opened for me. It’s truly immersed me into the Kingston life and I’ve met incredibly creative, driven and kind people because of it.
So thank you to all of you who have followed along or reached out to me! You’re what makes Kingston so special.
Tell me in the comments, why do you love living here?!
You hit the nail on the head, not just in this blog post but in all your comments and experiences you’ve shared about this city!
I actually fall into the “ended up in Kingston by chance” category and couldn’t have picked a better place to end up for this chapter of my life. It has everything you need in such an accessible way. The amount of things going on any given day is mind blowing. I love getting involved with everything Kingston has to offer!
Keep up the good work! Love following your experiences here in #ygk

Hey!! I think Kingston has changed a lot recently! Even a few short years ago the sense of community was very different, and localized in different places than it is now. I think as the world continues to change Kingston has got this perfect place and a lot of people are moving with it. I love this post! So glad this city has talented ladies like you to call it home!
