I picked up @elamin’s book from @novelideakingston this weekend and can’t wait to read it. For those unfamiliar, Elamin came to Kingston from Sudan when he was twelve. This memoir is a reflection on his experience in Kingston as a young, Black immigrant. Lifted from the jacket: “His is a story of yearning to belong where expectations and assumptions around race, faith, language, and origin make such belonging difficult - but it’s also a story of surprising ways in which connection can be found.” As I’ve said in the past, these (previously) untold stories are so important to learn and give context to the history of our community. They teach us how to be better neighbours and community members. Congratulations, @elamin!
